I have great pride in announcing that I will be an official Ambassador for National Careers Week in 2024!
National Careers Week (NCW), which takes place between Monday 4th and Saturday 9th March 2024, is a wide-reaching initiative – partnered by the NatWest Group – which aims to make people of all ages, backgrounds and experience more aware of – and excited by – the potential career pathways open to them across a diverse range of employment sectors, including education.
Ambassadors provide advice and guidance to schools and organisations throughout their local area, and help to coordinate and promote NCW-themed activities and events, where appropriate. Undertaken on a purely voluntary basis, the role of a NCW ambassador also includes attending regular briefing and training sessions, and providing suggestions for additional activities, events and resources that could help their participating schools and organisations further support and celebrate National Careers Week 2024.
Ultimately, it’s all about empowering positive change through high quality careers information and experience, and it’s something I can’t wait to be involved with whilst representing Moxi Recruitment.
My own personal experience of careers advice at school was fairly limited. Whilst we did have a Careers Advisor at my high school, we went into an interview expected to know what we wanted to ‘be’ when we grew up, so we could be pointed to the right college, job vacancy or apprenticeship. There was never really any talk of what “drove” us… Money? Job Satisfaction? Security?
As with so many teenagers about to leave school and embark on their futures post-16, I knew exactly what I ‘didn’t’ want to do, but had no real, hard-and-fast idea of what my future would look like. As with so many others in my industry, I even fell into recruitment by complete accident (and, ironically, it was a career I’d originally had on my ‘did not want to do’ list!).
Through my role as Talent Acquisition Partner with Moxi Recruitment, I get to talk to people every day who may feel like they lack the requisite skills – or confidence – to add value to a school environment. Our highly successful training programme supports people in gaining the skills, experience and self-belief it takes to work in today’s schools. A driving force for me has always been introducing people to roles, sectors or companies they may never have considered – or even come across – before. Equally, I’m motivated by a desire to give people the confidence to apply for new opportunities that may sit beyond their comfort zones, helping them push back their personal boundaries and grow, both professionally and personally.
My official induction for National Careers Week is now complete. It was a great session, driven by the passion and determination to share information with young people. We heard from Nick Newman, CEO & Founder of NCW, along with Social Media & Marketing Director Stephen Logan and Naomi Puri, Early Career Programme Manager at the NatWest Group (headline partner of the NCW), who is also a Mentor and Charity Board Member.
The theme underpinning the session – which we also uphold here at Moxi Recruitment – was helping people make better, more informed decisions regarding their futures. We’ll be promoting and sharing NCW (date for your diary – 4th March) – whilst working with our partner schools to support concurrent workshops, initiatives and events.
I’m really proud to be part of National Careers Week and can’t wait to share some of the amazing work that will be happening in 2024!
